Bonnie Ruth Whiteaker Russell

Bonnie Ruth Farrow Whiteaker-Russell, age 89, passed away peacefully, holding the hand of her beloved husband, Byron Craig Russell.

Bonnie's life was defined by resilience, determination, and an unwavering love for her family and friends. She devoted her early adult years to being a stay-at-home mother, lovingly raising her three children. Following her divorce in 1977, Bonnie embraced a new chapter with remarkable courage. Armed with a high school education and a few programming courses, she began her career as a receptionist at a computer company. Through hard work, intelligence, and perseverance, she steadily advanced, eventually becoming Director of Worldwide Education at Dun & Bradstreet Software.

After retiring in 1995, Bonnie quickly realized she wasn't ready to slow down. Just one year later, she founded her own IT consulting firm, Bonnie Whiteaker Inc. (BWI/Echo Professional Services). Under her leadership, the company became a top consulting firm during the Y2K conversion, helping organizations successfully navigate one of the largest technological transitions in history.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Bonnie was known for her generous spirit and vibrant personality. She was one of the original founders of the Huntsville Rugby Club, where she became much more than a supporter—she was an honorary mother, mentor, and cherished friend to countless players and families. Her home and heart were always open, and she had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

Above all, Bonnie treasured her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Byron Craig Russell; her children, Greg Whiteaker, Marybeth James, and Melissa Whiteaker; her grandchildren, Erin Whiteaker and Tori Petrie; and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jackson.

Bonnie will be remembered not only for the extraordinary career she built through determination and grit, but also for her kindness, generosity, strength, and the love she freely shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through her family, the many lives she touched, and the enduring friendships she cultivated over a lifetime.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

All services will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1055 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758. A visitation from 10:00AM to 11:00AM and the funeral mass to immediately follow at 11:00AM with Father Bryan Lowe officiating. The conclusions the services will be a 1:00PM burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, AL.
