Chloe Sumzi Birkholz, 1 year and 9 months, of Madison, Alabama, died unexpectedly in her sleep on October 17, 2026.
Chloe was born in Huntsville in January 2025 to Phillip & Rebecca Birkholz. Along with her sister, Embry, Chloe was the light of her parents’ world. Chloe was a beautiful young soul who brought smiles to everyone. She loved to wave to strangers and point out the moon and planes in the sky. Always wanting to be outside no matter the weather, she was a big nature lover. Butterflies, leaves, and things she could find in the garden always amazed her. Her favorite things to do were water play, kicking balls around, but most importantly playing with her big sister, Embry, and doing whatever she was doing. She enjoyed spending time at Grammy and Grandpa’s house (Pam and Jim), and going on playdates with her sweet friends. She was always ready to dance and hop around when her jams were playing. She particularly loved Elmo and Sesame Street and even planned to dress as Elmo for Halloween. She loved her people and would always ask where they were. We will not know the person that she would have grown into, but in her short life she was caring, curious, headstrong, and especially loving. She had an enormous impact on all that have known or met her. She will be extremely missed but always in our hearts and memory.
Chloe is survived by her parents, Phillip & Rebecca Birkholz; her sister, Embry Birkholz; and grandparents, Jim & Pam Birkholz and Thanh Mai.
Her memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home at 16 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL 35758. Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the memorial service starting shortly after 3:00 p.m. We ask that guests wear bright colors to honor her cheerful spirit.
Donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Chloe would be greatly appreciated.
