Our sweet momma and grandmommy, aka Fancy Nancy, made her journey to heaven on October 26, 2026. Through our faith we know she was met by Daddy, Joshua, and her precious momma. Most importantly though, the one who loves her more than any of us ever did…Jesus…welcomed her with open arms and said, “Well done thy good and faithful servant!”
Nancy was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina on July 16, 1935. She was an only child but had many cousins who were like siblings to her. Nancy was in the band and became a majorette in high school. She was also chosen in her senior year as one of the top ten beautiful women in her high school by the Hollywood director Cecily B DeMille. After graduating, she went on to Winthrop College and majored in business.
During college she met her true love, Mark Stone. Mark was called into the ministry and attended Baylor University, and Southwestern Seminary. While there, Mark was severely burned in a house fire. Nancy worked to support her family during his long recovery. They eventually moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where Mark was the pastor of London Bridge Baptist Church. Nancy held a few jobs as church secretaries, but her real niche was when she became an administrative assistant for a major hotel conglomerate in Chesapeake, Virginia. She loved her job so much that she did not retire until the age of 76. Mark passed away in 2001, and Nancy continued to live in Virginia until she moved to Madison, Alabama to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Greg.
Nancy was kind and had a great heart for others. She enjoyed the company of friends and family. Her nickname, Fancy Nancy came to be because she didn’t like a hair out of place or lint on her clothes. Even when she mowed the lawn, her clothes matched, her hair and makeup were perfect, and it is doubtful if she ever broke a sweat!
Her largest asset in her life was her faith in the Lord. Even during her last season of life, she knew God was still in control. She would reprimand you quickly if you ever told her she was lucky; she would remind you she is NOT lucky, but she was very blessed!
Nancy is survived by her two children, Jonmark and Cheryl (Greg); four grandchildren, Jason Weir, Allison Lingo (Tim), Chris Horlick (Yupha), and Bethany Sheehy (Ryan); two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Gracie Lingo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Rhoda Giles; husband, Mark Stone; and great grandson Joshua Lingo.
The celebration of life honoring Nancy will be held on October 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home on Huges Road in Madison. Officiated by Reverend Eric Kohler. There will be a light reception after the service for all friends and family. Nancy will be laid to rest beside her beloved Mark at London Bridge Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia; date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online or directly to Asbury Church in memory of Joshua Lingo, her great grandson, to support the student and college ministries.
